The Leipzig/Halle Airport is located approximately 18 kilometres northwest of Leipzig, serving around 2 million passengers annually. It serves as the home base for airlines such as Condor and AeroLogic. The Airport provides a comprehensive range of services for travellers, including restaurants, shops, and duty-free stores. Leipzig/Halle Airport is directly connected to the A9 (Berlin – Munich) and A14 (Dresden –Magdeburg) highways. A feeder road from the A14 leads directly to the airport. If you are arriving by car from the A9, you can access the airport via the Schkeuditzer Kreuz and the Großkugel highway exit. Additionally, you can reach the airport via Federal Highway B6, which connects Leipzig and Halle.
The airport has its own train station directly beneath the check-in area, seamlessly connected to both regional and long-distance Deutsche Bahn services. Various options are available for train travellers. The S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland provides connections between Halle, Leipzig, Altenburg, and Zwickau through the S5 and S5X lines. Trains operate every half hour, with a travel time of 14 minutes from Leipzig Central Station and 10 minutes from Halle Central Station.
The airport offers over 5000 parking spaces distributed among five large outdoor parking areas and a parking garage directly connected to the terminal building. Additionally, there is a parking lot in front of the check-in area and a drop-off lane at Terminal B for pick-up and drop-off services.
For travellers arriving by car, there is the option to securely park the vehicle in close proximity to the airport and then use a shuttle bus provided by a service provider to reach the terminal. This option, particularly suitable for long-term parking, offers a cost-effective alternative to expensive parking decks or valet services. Parking the car in a secure lot nearby allows for time and stress savings, as well as flexibility and independence from public transportation.
There is also the option of a valet parking service at Leipzig/Halle Airport. Travelers can drop off their car directly at the terminal, where an attendant will securely park it in a nearby lot. Upon return, the car will be waiting at the terminal. Although valet parking is typically more expensive than parking decks, the convenience and time savings outweigh the costs, especially for hurried travellers or those with heavy luggage.
